ami mattison

Ami Mattison grew up dancing, singing and acting in a small town in Michigan. She loved all aspects of performing and grew to respect all stage craft during summers in community theater projects. After high school Ami decided that of all the performance arts, she loved dance the most and decided to focus on performing and creating movement.

Ami moved to New York City for school and studied at New York University and graduated from Hunter College CUNY. She trained and eventually began teaching at Broadway Dance Center and was also on faculty at Peridance Center and PMT Dance Studio for six years. She has taught as faculty, guest artist, and intensive instructor at competitive and recreational studios across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and now California. Ami's choreography has been commissioned for many festivals and competitions and she has won Top Choreography Awards in addition to training Top National Soloists and YAGP finalists.

Ami is a former member of several dance companies, including SO Dance Collective and collidEdance. As a member of collidE dance, under the direction of Erica Michelle Sobol, Ami performed in showcases and full concerts as ensemble, principle, and soloist.

Now in Los Angeles, Ami is pursuing her passion of training dancers/artists and creating movement. She is on faculty at Edge Performing Arts Center in Hollywood and Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio in North Hollywood. She also teaches in at competitive studios and universities in Los Angeles and across the country. Ami is the artistic director and choreographer for the contemporary jazz dance company, Mattidance. Mattidance debuted with two SOLD OUT performances in May 2014 and has participated in numerous festivals including Dance Resource Center's HomeGrown, So-Cal Dance Invitational and the Pasadena Dance Festival.
